ergativity
- ergatîvî
- Ergativity refers to a language system in which the subject of an intransitive construction and the direct object of a transitive construction behave in the same manner and the subject of a transitive construction behaves differently. The intransitive subject and the transitive object may, for example, have the same case marking and agreement on the verb. The transitive subject is marked differently. — (Margreet Dorleijn (1996).
